The Benefits of Laser Dentistry

Jun 9 • 1 minute read

While they have been in use for over a decade, dental laser still make some patients wary of their use in procedures. At Alpha Dental Centre, we provide laser soft tissue treatments, enhancing patients’ experience during and after their procedure.

We have created this guide to help patients understand the benefits of dental lasers and provide insight into the soft tissue treatments available at our office.

How Do Dental Lasers Work?

As with lasers used in other applications, these handheld devices concentrate light to a degree where it is able to act as a blade. These tools are used at our practice to vaporize infected or decayed soft tissues, allowing Dr. Bojan Majstorovic to maximize patient comfort and preserve the surrounding healthy tissues.

Why We Choose Dental Lasers

Soft tissue lasers easily remove damaged tissues with minimal effect to the neighboring structure. They provide a number of benefits during the recovery process as well, which include:

Enhanced Comfort- Dental anesthetics are commonly used to ensure patient comfort during restorative procedures. However, while feelings of pain can be numbed, pressure can still be felt on the jaw, and the sound of drills is often enough to create anxiety in fearful patients.

Soft tissue lasers eliminate the pressing sensation created traditional dental instruments and the sound of handheld drills.

Reduced Bleeding- For patients who have undergone deep cleanings with traditional dental tools, they may have noted the bleeding that sometimes occurs after treatment has concluded. While this is common after extensive periodontal procedures, dental lasers seal tissue at the treatment site as the procedure is performed. This greatly reduces post treatment sensitivity and chances of bleeding.

Expedited Recovery Times- The cauterization of tissue also helps to shorten healing time and makes the recovery process comfortable for patients.

Lasers often make the need for sutures unnecessary after treatment. Without sutures and faster recovery time, the need for medication after treatment is also curbed.
